NMR measurement of objects of substantial volume

Object (1) e.g., bale of recovered paper moves along conveyer (4) and passes through a static magnetic field orientated in direction of motion and produced by coils (6). Coils (10) produce radio frequency magnetic field in a plane perpendicular to the static field. Nuclear magnetic resonance measurements are made for concentric rings of successive bale slices. Nuclear magnetic resonance measurements are processed by computer (16) to determine humidity, porosity and pore size.
