The method involves using a structure-borne sound sensor, which continuously detects the operating noise in each running carriage (10), so that significant changes can be monitored. The output of the sensor is monitored, and if periodicities occur, a damage alarm is triggered. The output of the sensor may be amplified, low-pass filtered and transformed into the frequency domain.
