PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line printer in which printing is automatically adjusted before normal printing is started when a start switch is turned on. SOLUTION: The printer has both a hammer bank unit 1 with a plurality of printing hammers set along a print line and a counter balancer unit 2. An electromagnetic device for reciprocating the hammer bank unit 1 and counter balancer unit 2 mutually in opposite directions is set. Moreover, linear sensors 4-1 and 4-2 for outputting a pulse signal proportional to a distance between print dots and end part sensors 5-1 and 5-2 for outputting an origin or position are set to one sides of the hammer bank unit 1 and counter balancer unit 2. A controller 6 is arranged which has a microprocessor 9' for automatically controlling to align printing at 3 in a longitudinal direction at the time of printing from both right and left directions by measuring output signals of the linear sensors 4-1, 4-2 and end part sensors 5-1, 5-2.
