PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the heat retaining property of an inner pipe by a heat insulating space with a simple structure during the warming-up period of an engine, and moderately accelerate the radiation of heat of exhaust gas passing through the inner pipe to prevent overheating of the inner pipe after the warming-up, in a heat insulation type exhaust pipe for engine. SOLUTION: The upstream end parts of a thin-walled inner pipe 10 and a thick-walled outer pipe 11 internally and externally double-arranged so that a cylindrical heat insulating space 12 is put between these inner- and outer pipes, are adhered to each other, the downstream end part of the inner pipe 10 is slidably supported on the inside peripheral surface of the outer pipe 11, and a gap adjusting step part 23 facing the downstream end face of the inner pipe 10 to confine a gap 25 between the end face of the inner pipe and the step part itself, is provided adjacent to and integrally with the outer pipe 11. The gap 25 is restricted as the inner pipe 10 is thermally expanded in the axial direction greater than the outer pipe 11.
