PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load on unit forming work in the formation of a multilayer filter by a method in which a spacer is laminated between sheet members, and after the laminate is fixed, the spacer is removed by a removing means to form a clearance between the sheet members. SOLUTION: In a filter unit, numbers of sheets 1 are fixed by a sheet fixing member 2 with voids held between them, and side materials 3 are cemented to the right and left end surfaces. In the production of the unit, for example, a spacer of a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol sheet is laminated between photocatalyst carrying sheets 1 using glass fiber nonwoven fabrics as backings, and this is fixed by a hot melt adhesive. Next, the spacer, after being dissolved in water or hot water, is dried, and the side material 3 is cemented to a unit side to be finished. A photocatalyst whose deodorizing and organic substance decomposing effects are activated by ultraviolet rays is supported on the photocatalyst carrying sheet.
