ATM CELL MULTIPLEXING DEVICE AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM multiplexing device where the non-upper limit priority inversion never occurs by disusing an ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) cell if its waiting time exceeds a prescribed time-over time set for a buffer waiting for the transmission of the ATM cell. SOLUTION: This device includes an AAL multiplexing part 7A which generates an ATM cell from the user data included in the AAL data 2, a transmission waiting buffer 8 which temporarily holds the generated ATM cell and an ATM cell multiplexing part 3 which multiplexes the ATM cell that is read out of the buffer 8. Then a function is given to the buffer 8 to disuse the relevant ATM cell when the transmission waiting time exceeds a prescribed time- over time. Meanwhile, a function is given to the part 7A to give the priority to the user data to which the service quality higher than that of the disused ATM cell is required for a new ATM cell that is generated right after the old ATM cell is disused. Furthermore, a disuse monitoring part 9 decides whether an ATM cell is disused in the buffer 8.
