PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a leg of a sitting person from being caught between a seat portion and a floor during lifting down of the seat portion, by providing a leg sensor that senses insertion of an under knee of the leg of the sitting person and stops the lifting down of the seat portion near the front end of the lower surface of the seat portion, in a chair having a lifting driving device of the seat portion. SOLUTION: A chair having a seat-portion lifting function is constituted so that the seat portion 18 rises together with a lifting plate 15 when a switch lever 27a provided for a hand switch 27 is inclined upward from a neutral position, and the seat portion 18 falls together with the lifting plate 15 when it is inclined downward from the neutral position. At this time, a leg sensor 28 that senses insertion of an under-knee of the leg of the sitting person and stops the lifting down of the seat portion 18 is provided near the front end of the lower surface of the seat portion 18. This leg sensor 28 is oscillatingly suspended through a hinge near the front end of the lower surface of the seat portion 18, has a contact sensing plate energized forward by a spring, and has a switch 32 abutting to a projection piece of this contact sensing plate on the lower surface of the seat portion 18.
