PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both a highly heat-resistant polymer fluorescent substance in a high fluorescent yield and a polymer luminous element having a high luminous efficiency and excellent in heat resistance using the polymer fluorescent substance. SOLUTION: This polymer fluorescent substance has a visible fluorescence in a solid state and 103 to 107 number-average molecular weight and contains >=50 mol% of the sum total of recurring units represented by Ar1-(CR1=CR2)n [Ar1 is an arylene group or the like having 4-20 pieces of carbon atoms and participating in the conjugated bond having a side chain; (n) is 0 or 1] and Ar2-(CR3=CR4)m [Ar2 is an arylene group or the like having 4-20 pieces of carbon atoms and participating in the conjugated bond and has no side chain; (m) is 0 or 1] based on the total recurring units. In the recurring units, substituent groups are selected so as to hold the relationship represented by the following formula: 0.33 < average ratio of the number of carbons < 0.77 [the average ratio of the number of carbons is a value obtained by dividing the sum total of the number of carbon atoms contained in Ar1 by the sum total of the number of carbon atoms contained in a main chain of both the recurring units].
