PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new ester useful as a raw material monomer for resins excellent in optical characteristics, heat and water resistances and adhesion by reaction a specific olefin with a specified (meth)acrylic acid. SOLUTION: This ester is represented by formula I [R1 is H or methyl; R2 is OCOOR3, OCONR4R5 or CONR6R7 (R3 to R7 are each H or a 1-10C hydrocarbon)], e.g. 5-ethoxycarbonyloxybicyclo[2.2.1]heptyl-2- or -3-acrylate. The above compound is produced by reacting a compound represented by formula II with (meth)acrylic acid represented by formula III and carrying out the reaction in the presence of a dehydrochlorinating agent, e.g. pyridine at room temperature to 200 deg.C under atmospheric pressure in a first step and conducting the reaction in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as sulfuric acid at room temperature to 200 deg.C under the atmospheric pressure in a second step at that time.
