PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate sheet feed in interlace mode by constituting a recording medium carrying means of such a gear train as the carriage of a recording medium for forming an image at an image density of integer times is attained at a value close to integer times of the number of teeth of a gear. SOLUTION: A stepping motor 1 is fixed to a side frame 10 and a pinion 3 secured to the output shaft 2 of the stepping motor 1 is meshed with an intermediate gear 6 secured to a shaft 5. It is then meshed with a roller drive gear 13 through a gear 7 integral with the intermediate gear 6 in order to transmit a rotating force to a sheet feed roller 14 supported by a bearing 11 secured to the side frame 10. Using an ink jet printer having N nozzles made in a nozzle plate at an arranging density, a gear train is constituted such that the carriage of a recording sheet for forming an image having resolution integer times of the arranging density is attained at a value close to integer times of the number of teeth of gears 3, 6, 7 13.
