PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable correct numerical control by setting head advance quantity to coincide with actual grinding quantity, and let overload, when generated, escape to prevent breakage of a work. SOLUTION: In this grinding machine, a head 18 is moved in the direction of a rotating grinding wheel 12, and a workpiece W installed on a tip of a work shaft 23 is ground by the grinding wheel 12 while it follows rotation with the work shaft 23. In this case, a cylinder device 46 is driven to press a regulation table 29 of a work shaft holder 26 holding the work shaft 23 by a pressing lever 47. The regulation table 29 is then held between the pressing lever 47 and a regulation surface 25a, and the work shaft 23 is integrally formed with the head 18 as a result. In the meanwhile, as overload is applied at the time of grinding, the pressing lever 47 is pressed to return.
