PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the frequent disposal work of shredded refuse by compressing the refuse efficiently and intermittently while a heap of the refuse is leveled off. SOLUTION: In a shredder equipped with a box-shaped body, a shredding mechanism 2, a shredded refuse housing box, and a compressor 4, the compressor comprises a pair of right and left sliding shafts 6 fitted to be able to reciprocate straight and vertically, compressing frame bodies 7 which can compress the shredded refuse while levelling off the refuse accumulated by the reciprocation, and a straight lift mechanism 8 which can make the sliding shafts and the frame bodies quick-return-reciprocate straight and vertically. By driving the mechanism 8, the shafts and the frame bodies fixed at the lower end parts of the shafts are quick-return-reciprocated straight and vertically so that the accumulated refuse is compressed while being leveled off intermittently.
