PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refuse gasifying/melting system in which the air ratio and the temperature in a gasification furnace are controlled correctly by knowing the air ratio in the gasification furnace in real time. SOLUTION: A refuse gasifying/melting system comprises a gasification furnace 2 for burning refuse under a low air ratio to produce combustible gas Q1 and unburnt char C, and an ash melting furnace 3 for burning the combustible gas G1 and unburnt char C at high temperature to discharge combustion exhaust gas G2 and slug. The system further comprises a sensor 21 for measuring the concentration of CO and CO2 in the combustible gas G1, a unit 23 for operating the ratio CO/CO2 from the measurements, and a controller 24 for controlling air supply into the gasification furnace 2 by regulating the opening of a valve 26 based on the operation results. Temperature in the gasification furnace 2 is detected by means of a thermocouple 27 and when it is lower than a specified level, a controller 28 opens a valve 30 in order to assist combustion by means of a burner 29.
