PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably detect the stains and foreign matters such as dust stuck to the inner face of a three-piece can and the film defects of an inner face film. SOLUTION: The image, photographed by an image pickup means, of the inner face of a can barrel having a flange section and a junction over the axial direction is converted into a deployed image in step 31. The deployed image is divided into picture elements, and the junction is detected by a differential process in step 32. The deployed image is split into multiple regions in step 33. The deployed image is divided into picture elements for each region, and whether a can barrel is satisfactory or not is judged by a binalization process and a differential process in step 34. The deformation of the flange section is inspected, and whether the can barrel is satisfactory or not is judged on the flange section in step 35. The can barrel judged as satisfactory in all processes is evaluated as successful, and the can barrel judged as unsatisfactory in any process is evaluated as unsuccessful in step 36.
