PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and compact device capable of converting linear movement into rotary movement by utilizing a cam mechanism. SOLUTION: This device 1 has a first cam 10 having elliptic profile, and when the first cam 10 rotates, a pair of balls 6, 7 in contact with a cam face 12 at its outer periphery move in the radial direction. Since a conical cam face 21 of a second cam 20 is pressed against each ball 6, 7 by a pre-load spring 9, the second cam 20 performs reciprocating linear movement in the direction of a central line 1a of rotation when each ball 6, 7 moves in the radial direction. As a result, the rotary movement of a rotary input shaft 11 connected with the first cam 10 is taken out as linear reciprocating movement of an output rod 5 connected with the second cam 20. Since a trouble does not occur in the linear movement even if the second cam 20 rotates, a holding mechanism for restricting the cam 20 not to rotate becomes unnecessary.
