PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and reliably prevent wiper judder noise and the adherence of raindrops to the windshield by controlling a drive device so that wiper drive is sustained for a prescribed time after a vehicle stops. SOLUTION: A wiper unit 10 includes a drive device 62 that drives a wiper 63, a vehicle speed detection device 14 that detects vehicle speed V, and a control means 11 that controls the drive device 62 such that the wiper 63 sustains to be driven for a prescribed time T after the vehicle stops, then stops, when it detects that the vehicle has stopped based on the output from the vehicle speed detection device 14. By setting the prescribed time T in accordance with the drive speed V' of the wiper 63 before the vehicle stops, judder noise of the wiper 63 can be automatically prevented in cases where the vehicle stops temporarily, for example at traffic lights and in traffic jams, so that the vehicle can be driven comfortably in the rain. Wear of the wiper blade is reduced also.
