PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability for replacing an ink cartridge when the ink cartridge becomes in an out-of-ink condition. SOLUTION: This ink jet recorder comprises an ink-out detecting means 68 for detecting an out-of-ink condition of an ink cartridge mounted on a carriage and a cover-open detecting means 69 for detecting an opening condition of a cover provided to a housing accommodating a recorder body. When the ink-out detecting means 68 detects the out-of-ink condition and the cover-open detecting means 69 detects the opening condition of the cover, a carriage driving means 70 is controlled such that the carriage is moved to an opening section for replacement formed on the housing. As a result, it is possible to improve the operability for replacing the ink cartridge when the ink cartridge becomes in the out-of-ink condition. |
