PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve insulating performance between an electrode and a shield layer connected with a magnetic resistance element without making thick an insulating layer between the magnetic resistance element and the shield layer. SOLUTION: A lower shield layer 3 is formed like a frame having a space for housing a conductive layer 7b constituting an electrode connected with an MR element 5. The conductive layer 7b is arranged so as to be insulated through an insulating film 2a from the lower shield layer 3 in the space (groove) of the lower shield layer 3. The MR element 5 is connected through an electrode layer 7a with the conductive layer 7b.
