TITANIUM OXIDE TYPE PHOTOCATALYST FINE PARTICLE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amt. of nitric acid generated by the oxidative decomposition of nitrogen oxides when nitrogen oxides are decomposed and removed by the photocatalytic reaction of titanium oxide. SOLUTION: In composite oxide constituted of titanium oxide and a metal oxide other than titanium oxide, titanium oxide type fine particles wherein titanium oxide is dispersed in composite oxide as ultrafine particles with a crystal size of 10 nm or less are used. Titanium oxide in the titanium oxide type photocatalyst fine particles thus obtained can absorb light energy larger than band gap energy of a titanium dioxide semiconductor of a bulk and is enhanced in the capacity decomposing nitrogen oxides into N2 and O2.
