PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a conveying roll having excellent surface characteristics. SOLUTION: The base body consists of a fused silica, and a ceramic coating layer is applied as the outermost layer. The coating layer consists of at least one component selected from Al2O3, ZrO2, Y2O3, TiO2, MgO, Cr2O3, and formed by thermal spraying method using a plasma torch, gas flame, or explosion flame (detonation method). Preferably, the coating material is thermally sprayed after a pretreatment in which the surface of the fused silica is roughened by using a grinding material of a specified particle size to obtain 2 to 10μm surface roughness Ra. Moreover, the fused silica is preferably a sintered material.
