PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a key detent load generated by the axial direction movement of a sleeve sufficiently and also improve a shift feeling. SOLUTION: In the synchronizer of a gear transmission, a synchronizer key 16 is made free in the axial direction and also a key detent mechanism is composed of a ball 14 assembled to a synchronizer hub 12 a prescribed amount movably to the diameter direction and axial direction and engaged with the inner periphery of the sleeve 13 and the synchronizer key 16 and a spring 15 for energizing the ball 14 toward the inner periphery of the sleeve 13 to the diameter direction. Recessed parts are provided on the inner periphery of the sleeve 13 respectively responding to a neutral position and respective shift positions and also cams for changing continuously the key detent load responding to the axial direction movement of the sleeve are formed respectively between these respective recessed parts.
