PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flatness of a glass substrate and to reduce complexity in a production process by applying a method other than mechanical polishing methods such as polishing in addition to the mechanical polishing methods. SOLUTION: The surface of a glass substrate is flattened by subjecting the glass substrate to wet-etching treatment after subjecting the glass substrate to chemically reinforcing treatment. The glass substrate production process is comprised of first processing the glass substrate to a round form(coring), then processing edge (chamfering), wrapping, polishing the substrate, further subjecting the substrate to chemically reinforcing treatment and subjecting the resultant substrate to wet-etching to chemically flatten it. After washing and inspection, a finished substrate is obtained.
