PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the accurate control of throat height in a recording head, to make thin the film thickness of a thin film coil without increasing the electric resistance value of this thin film coil, and to increase a recording and reproduction capacity. SOLUTION: A lower magnetic pole is divided into a lower magnetic pole top end part 19a and a lower magnetic pole layer 18, and the lower magnetic pole top end part 19a is formed on the flat face of the lower magnetic pole layer 18. An insulating layer 20a is formed in a recessed area adjacent to the lower magnetic pole top end part 19a, and throat height is regulated by the edge of the lower magnetic pole top end part 19a side of the insulating layer 20a. The film thickness of a thin film coil 24 in the second layer is made thicker than that of a thin film coil 21 in the first layer. The film thickness of the thin film coil 21 is decided according to the film thickness of the lower magnetic pole top end part 19a. The film thickness of the thin film coil 24 is made thicker than that of the thin film coil 21 in the first layer so that the coil resistance of the whole thin film coils 21 and 24 can be reduced. Thus, it is possible to reduce the film thickness of the thin film coil 21 as much as possible without increasing the coil resistance, and to increase a recording and reproduction capacity by reducing a read/write distance(RWD). |
