PAPER TREATING AGENT, TREATMENT OF PAPER USING THE SAME AND TREATED PAPER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper treating agent capable of imparting water resistance and water repellency to a paper, improving the strength when wetted and readily repulping (recycling) the treated paper, to provide a method for treating the paper using the paper treating agent and to obtain the treated paper. SOLUTION: This paper treating agent contains an aromatic vinylic monomer unit, an acrylic or a methacrylic ester-based monomer unit and an unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride-based monomer unit as essential constituent units, has the content of the unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride-based monomer unit within the range of 3-25 mol% based on the total monomer units and the content of the unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride-based monomer unit without opening the ring of >=3 mol% based on the total monomer units.
