PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing 2-£(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino|phenylacetoxyacetic acid without using dangerous high-pressure gas and expensive transition metal catalyst. Thereby it is possible to produce 2-£(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino|phenylacetoxyacetic acid easily and economically, and to obtain 2-£(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino|phenylacetoxyacetic acid of excellent yield. CONSTITUTION: 2-£(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino|phenylacetoxyacetic acid is obtained by a process comprising the steps of: (a) reacting haloacetic acid and 2,3-dihydropyran at a temperature of 0-6 degrees centigrade to protect carboxyl group of haloacetic acid; (b) reacting 2,3-tetrahydropyranyl haloacetate and 2-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino phenyl acetic or salt thereof in the presence or absence of catalyst of inorganic base or organic base; and then (c) deprotecting ester group in the presence of catalyst of inorganic acid or organic acid.
