A needle protector intended for use with syringes, carpules and similar injection instruments. The protector has an exterior protective cap that encloses the injection cannula arranged on a needle holder and which can be removed for the injection process. Within the protective cap, a protective sheath is arranged that is firmly connected to the needle holder, completely accommodating the injection cannula. The protective sheath can be axially compressed or deformed. The face at the tip of the cannula is designed in such a way that it permits easy passage of the cannula.
