PURPOSE: A shift locking controlling device of a gearshift of an automatic transmission is provided to promote the feeling of shift by preventing the misoperation of a gearshift due to the mistake of a user in a vehicle having an automatic transmission. CONSTITUTION: A controller(20) reads the output of a sensor(16) for detecting angle of a crank and detects the rotation state of an engine if a shift locking device of a gearshift of an automatic transmission is operated. If the engine is decided to be rotating, the controller reads the output of a speed sensor(18) and senses the traveling state of a vehicle. If the vehicle is not traveling, the controller detects if a brake switch(12) is turned on. If the brake switch is turned on, the controller senses the position of a gearshift(24) by being input with the signals supplied from a sensor(14) for detecting the position of the gearshift. The controller supplies a predetermined shift locking canceling signal CTL to a shift locking canceling actuator(22) if the position of the gearshift is corresponding to one of 'P','N', or 'R'.
