PURPOSE: A composition for the prevention and treatment of dandruff is provided which comprises polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salt. CONSTITUTION: A composition comprises polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salt by itself, ora mixture of polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salt and common dandruff-prevention components such as piroctone olamine, zinc pyrithione, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsufone, chlorophenoxyimidazolyldimethylbutanone, and iodopropynylbutylcarbamate. Polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salt is represented as formula 1 wherein M is selected among phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, and sulfuric acid, and n is integer. Preferably 0.1-2.0 wt.% of polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salts constitute the composition as a single component. 0.001-0.5 wt.% of polyhexamethylenebiguaninidine salt is sufficient for the prevention and treatment of dandruff when it is used as the mixture with one or more component among piroctone olamine, zinc pyrithione, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsufone, chlorophenoxyimidazolyldimethylbutanone, and iodopropynylbutylcarbamate.
