PURPOSE: An automatic power control method for a VCR is provided to save electric power by automatically turning off the power of the VCR when a key signal of the VCR is not input for a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION: In an automatic power control method for a VCR, it is first determined if power for the VCR is turned on(S1), and when the power for the VTR is turned on, it is determined if power for a TV is turned on(S2). When the power for the TV is turned on, it is determined if a VCR mode is being performed(S3). When the VCR mode is being performed(S3), a current mode is being performed(S5). Then, it is determined if the VCR is operated within a predetermined time after the current mode is performed(S6). When the VCR is not operated within the predetermined time, the power for the VCR is turned off(S7)
