PURPOSE: A character service method using a caption TV is provided to satisfy the need of a user by enabling a character service in wide uses at low cost. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter(11) of a character message needs to request a character service before sending the character message. Herein, an identification number is given to identify caption TVs when producing the caption TV, and a user code is optionally established by a user to preserve the safety of the character service. And, the user code is data -based by being transmitted to a broadcasting station(13). Thus, when the transmitter of the character message transmits a specific character message, the identification number, and the user code are transferred to a communication company(12) or to the broadcasting station. Then, the broadcasting station encodes the character message to be broadcasting after checking if the identification number and the user code are registered. Therefore, the transmitted character message is displayed on a screen by being decoded in a corresponding caption TV.
