A method and system for the treatment of food items is provided. In accordance with the invention, an electric current is rapidly discharged through a discharge apparatus, this giving rise to a very strong and abrupt force which bounces onto the food item. By one embodiment, the discharge apparatus involves discharging electric current through a fluid which causes evolution of plasma, vapor or both, which in turn yield a pressure wave which bounces onto the food item. In accordance with another embodiment the apparatus comprises a discharge coil which is associated with a displaceable metal object whereby the discharge causes magnetic repulsion which induces a rapid movement in the displaceable metal object giving rise to a mechanical force which bounces onto the food item. |
