COMPUTER SECURITY METHOD AND SYSTEM USING START-UP KEY CARD

PURPOSE: A computer security method and a system using a start-up key card is provided for a portable computer having a burglarproof start-up key card so as to be secured by checking a start-up key card inserted by a user and limiting its usage. CONSTITUTION: When a user pushes a power button, power is supplied to each device in the system and the operation of system power software is started(200). Security enable status in the security item in CMOS setup is judged(200). If not in the security enable status, booting operation is proceeded(212). If in the security enable status, it is judged whether a start-up key card is inserted(204). If the start-up key card has been inserted, the intrinsic serial number of the start-up key card is descrambled(216). The serial numbers of the start-up key card and the system are compared(218). It is judged whether the serial numbers are in accordance(220). If in accordance, booting operation is proceeded(212). If not in accordance, the system is stopped(222).
