PURPOSE: An auto scaling method of a digital oscilloscope is provided to omit an on or off operation of channel in changing a display mode by determining automatically an on or off state of a channel. CONSTITUTION: An auto scaling method of a digital oscilloscope comprises the steps of an on/off determination process, a setting process, and a control process. The on/off determination process is to determine an on or off state of a channel by examining the presence of an input signal. The setting process is to set a searching amplitude and a searching period according to the determination. The control process is to control a volt per division and a time base in order to locate the input signal within the searching amplitude and the searching period by examining the amplitude and the period of the input signal.
