PURPOSE: An optical disk driving apparatus and its driving method are provided to reduce the quantity of components by utilizing the disk loading structure of a manual pattern, without the necessity of using a loading motor. CONSTITUTION: An optical disk driving apparatus is composed of a deck base(1) forming the body, a base plate(10) mounting a spindle motor and a pickup unit, a tray(20) mounting an optical disk(D), a tray transfer means(30), a base plate up/down means(40) and a upper cover(50). The deck base(1) comprises a couple of lateral walls(2,3), a rear wall(4) and a floor surface(5). The base plate(10) is installed to be moved to the deck base(1) by being inserted into base plate holes(6a,6b). The tray(20) is installed on the upper part of the deck base(1). The tray transfer means(30) is formed on the floor surface(5) of the deck base(1). The tray transfer means(30) comprises a rack gear(21), a pinion(31) and a motor(32). The base plate up/down mean(40) interlocked with the tray transfer means comprises a slide member(41) and a rotation lever(42). The cover(50) equipped with a clamp assembly(51) presses the hub part of the optical disk(D).
