PURPOSE: A use of ginseng ginsenoside as oocyte maturation facilitator is provided in which the ginseng ginsenoside facilitates maturation of oocyte by treating oocyte therewith and activating Ca¬(2+)-activated chloride channels. CONSTITUTION: An effect of ginseng ginsenoside on Xenopus laevis oocyte is assayed by the activity of Ca¬(2+)-activated chloride channels as the voltage and the dose of ginsenoside are varied. Ginsenoside purified from ginseng binds the ginsenoside binding protein which is a membrane protein of oocyte, and activates phospholipase C. The activated phospholipase C releases IP3 from the membrane. The released IP3 interacts with IP3 binding site in calcium storage site, and releases calcium from calcium storage site into the cytoplasm. The maturation of oocyte is facilitated because the released calcium activates the Ca¬(2+)-activated chloride channels.
