The steering column comprises a first part (18) enclosing a bolt (16) and a second part (32) enclosing the bolt control. A resilient pin (42) locks the bolt when the two parts are separated from each other. While the two parts are not separated the pin arms are held by the second part in a stressed state. When the two parts are separated the pin returns to a least stressed state where the branches engage the bolt and ensure locking.
