The switch operates using a gas-filled chamber to exert pressure on a membrane to separate contacts. The flat, push-button switch comprises two laminated substrates which are glued together, and between which there is a conductive deposit forming a membrane. Adjacent to this membrane there are two chambers (8,12) which communicate via a channel (7) and which are filled with gas. Two normally closed contacts (4,5) incorporate the membrane and a fixed contact. If pressure is applied to the domed cover (9) of the first chamber (8), gas is forced along the channel to the second chamber (12), thus deforming the membrane and separating the contacts. When the pressure on this cover is released, the contacts are closed again.
