摘要 A method for producing an electrochemical capacitor, comprising fabricating a unit cell by housing an electrode assembly made up of a polarizable electrode made chiefly of a partially oxidized carbonaceous material containing crystallite carbon analogous to graphite, a separator, and a collector, and an organic electrolyte in a cell container, fabricating a first electrochemical capacitor by housing either the unit cell or an assembly of such unit cells in a first capacitor container, subjecting the first electrochemical capacitor to charging/discharging cycles until the maximum value of the stress produced by the volume expansion of the polarizable electrode while the capacitor is charged becomes substantially constant, and fabricating a second electrochemical capacitor by transplanting either the unit cell or the assembly of the unit cells from the first capacitor container into a second capacitor container after the maximum value of the stress becomes substantially constant, whereby the capacitor container hardly deforms plastically, and the electrochemical capacitor is excellent in durability and reliability.
