The present invention relates to an active unit for reproducing large-scale images and comprising a surface, wherein a portion at least of said surface comprises a frame which is made of picture elements and which is designed for representing graphic or text information. Each picture element is formed by at least one light source that can be actuated through a control unit. A detection unit arranged respectively between selected individual light sources or in the place thereof is used for receiving an electromagnetic radiation (16) which can be emitted using at least one portable and manually controlled signal emitting unit. This unit comprises a control unit having a transducer connected thereto for producing an electromagnetic radiation (16) according to a control signal outputted by the control unit, said radiation being directed towards the surface. The detection unit outputs a corresponding reception signal for estimation by a computing unit (150).
