A clamp for the lid 16 of a pressure vessel comprises a stirrup 3 hinged to the container 1 and carrying a sleeve 5 within which is a buffer 6 for engaging over a stud 16<SP>1</SP> on the lid and a column 7 of spring washers surmounted by a pressure plate 8. A cap 12 is threaded on to the sleeve and is arranged to press the buffer downwardly when rotated through less than one complete revolution. The cap 12 has a groove which may be engaged by a projection 20 on a latch 17 to lock the clamp in position. An alternative form of locking device consists in a spring-biased projection engaging in a V- groove in the bottom rim of the cap. |
