The steam iron (1), designed for use in conjunction with an ironing board incorporating a steam suction and evacuation unit and fed with steam from a separate heater (2) fed to the iron through a tube (6). The steam feed and suction unit have cut-outs (7) operated by a regulator (9) to give simultaneous control of the steam feed and suction unit. The steam feed and suction unit have cut-outs (7), e.g. in the form of solenoid valves, operated by a regulator (9) with a relay, timer or other mechanical or electronic circuit to give simultaneous control of the steam feed and suction unit.
