The adapter consists of a stabiliser (5) and a launcher (6) and has truncated conical elements (5b, 6b; 5c, 6c) on the stabiliser and launcher which engage to hold the stabiliser, launcher and bullet together during the propulsion phase inside the barrel and allow them to separate on leaving the barrel. The separation is produced by a flat annular surface on the end of the launcher and air ducts formed by the truncated conical inner surfaces of the stabiliser and outer surfaces of the launcher.
