The table or chair is formed by a series of flat panels (1,6) cut to define irregular decorative shapes, attached by hinges to a pair of support members (2,3). The support members are connected by a further hinge to an intermediate base member (4). The base, in a deployed position, defines a triangular-section vertical base column in conjunction with the support members. A horizontal surface panel (6) is attached to the horizontal upper edge of one of the support members. The support members include locking components to selectively secure them in the deployed position. The upper edge of the support member to which the horizontal panel is not attached includes location formations to secure the horizontal panel in its deployed position.
