The unit encompasses a cylinder which is divided into two working chambers by a piston and a piston rod. A fluid connection is provided between the two working chambers, which can be blocked by a valve unit. The valve unit encompasses two valve groups which influence the fluid flow between the chambers in both directions. The valve unit provides at least one flow connection between the chambers, connecting at least one of the chambers to one of the valve groups.
