The brick is for the production of a wall and has through recesses (3) extending from its upper side to its under side. In the production of a wall, the upper side of a first brick locates on the under side of a second brick at least in areas. Both bricks are connected by an adhesive material in the contact surface. The recesses (31), particularly on the upper side (4) and/or the underside (5) of the brick (1), are closed. On the upper and/or lower sides of the brick an impenetrable layer of hardenable wall mortar is used. The brick is produced from a material based on clay.
