The method involves detecting and evaluating transmission addresses transmitted on the channel and if appropriate reception addresses to detect the case of a lengthy occupation of the channel by a transmitting station (2-6); in this event a fault signal is sent over the transmission channel (7) of the same type as for a collision of simultaneous transmitters under the CSMA/CD control method. Independent claims are also included for a network and a network unit.
