Coloring of casting materials uses an additive produced by high temperature reaction of a pigment with a granite sand and/or quartz sand support. An Independent claim is also included for apparatus for producing the coloring additive described above. Preferred Features: The pigment is a metal oxide selected from oxides of Al, Mg, Si, Ni, Mn, Co, Fe, Cr, Ti, Zn, Cu, Ag, Sb, Pb, U, Nd and Pr and/or mixed oxides.
