The arrangement has a pair of rollers (10,110 for pressing the first side of a magnetic steel strip (1) between them to gradually reduce its thickness from the inner side of the strip towards the other side. A stopper limits the distance between the rollers to be greater than a defined distance. An Independent claim is also included for a method of forming a spiral stator core for a rotating field machine.
