The system has sensors (7) associated with each patient connected by at least one medical terminal (8) to a hierarchically superior medical workstation (9) forming a network node. The workstations are connected to a hierarchically superior central workstation (10) and each has associated network adapters, for connection to the medical terminal device and the central workstation. The adapters are voltage isolated and inductively coupled.
