The method involves door unit movement being measured within a defined measurement section (L) and the value fed to a computer (7) that controls the movement and the assembly devices according to a predefined assembly program. The door unit is rotated between the operations on the lock and hinge sides. The method involves inserting at least one lock into an aperture in a long edge of a rough door unit (2) and screwing it in place, drilling holes for hinges in the opposite long edge and inserting hinges into the holes. The rough door units are transported past assembly devices (4) for lock and hinge mountings on the same side of a conveyer path (1). The door unit movement is measured within a defined measurement section (L) and the value fed to a computer (7) that controls the movement and the assembly devices according to a predefined assembly program.
